The Climb
————
“Growing up as a Nepali-Australian was confusing, my melanin differentiated me from my Australian friends, whereas my Aussie accent differentiated me from my parents. This liminal state cultivated an entrenched insecurity from an early age. All I wanted was to ‘fit in’. So, I remember coming home from grade five and shaving my legs in secret with my mothers’ razor, researching home remedies to make me lighter; resulting in rubbing my skin with lemon before every shower.
————
The worst part was, I was, so so paranoid about taking photos of myself within that period of my life that now, I have no photos of me at school or with any friends I had. I simply felt alienated in my own skin because, no matter what measures I took to change my appearance I never did actually ‘fit in’.
————
So like a lot of adolescent girls and boys, I fell in love with makeup – then seeing its blurring capabilities; I started to D E P E N D on makeup.
————
I couldn’t leave the house until grade eleven without wearing some type of makeup or in other words I didn’t leave without the safety of my ‘mask’. In all this, I felt alone but now I know that there are millions if not trillions of people just like me that couldn’t see beauty within themselves.”

The Descent
————
“SOOOOO, here is me, sporting my stunning SIA earrings with absolutely no makeup, loving my bare skin! If I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN TOO. Beauty starts from within and hey, you look prettiest when smiling so take off your mask and love the stunning queen smiling back at you in the mirror.”

The Acceptance
————
“In a battle with insecurity and self worth, acceptance will be a long time coming – it is no easy task because some days you can be positive and kind to yourself, but others you return back to your shell. Thus, it’s important to highlight that it is difficult and yet every step small or big that you take to embrace and express who you are and who YOU want to be is a leap towards a happier you!
————
So, wear what you happy, do what makes you feel alive, be kind to every one and let’s create a more forgiving generation.”
